Dua Lipa calls Britney Spears an icon
Ms Dua Lipa has praised Ms Britney Spears as a defining pop figure and named “Toxic” as her favourite song, in comments highlighted in a new interview feature published this week.
SPIN1038 reported that Dua Lipa called Spears “such an icon” and said she likes to hear “Toxic” at the end of “every single night” when she is in the mood, describing the 2003 track as “one of the greatest pop songs ever made”.
In the same piece, Dua Lipa said the song still feels current, adding that it makes her feel “nostalgic” but would be “an absolute smash” even if it were released today. She also pointed to the music video as a standout moment, joking that she does not think anyone has made a stewardess outfit look better.
The comments add to Dua Lipa’s continued run of pop-culture moments during her current spotlight, following Britpop News reporting on her film role being revealed in a DC Comics project as her profile expands beyond music.
Spears remains one of pop’s most influential artists, and “Toxic” continues to be widely cited by newer generations of performers as a benchmark for mainstream songwriting, production and visual presentation.
