Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing serious legal trouble. Three men have filed lawsuits accusing him of rape and assault. On top of that, he is facing federal criminal charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and taking people across state lines for prostitution. Prosecutors say he held “Freak Off” parties where he forced people to take part in sexual acts. Diddy has said he is not guilty and denies doing anything wrong.
As the trial gets closer, Diddy’s lawyers are asking the judge to leave out certain evidence. They say the prosecutors want to bring up old accusations that are not part of the official charges. Some of these claims go back over 20 years, even to the 1980s. His lawyers say it would be unfair to include this because it would take too long to defend and some of the people involved have died or can’t be found.
His legal team also says this old evidence would distract from the main case and make Diddy look bad, even if he didn’t do what he’s being accused of now. They believe the trial would take much longer and confuse the jury if this extra information is allowed.
But prosecutors say this old evidence is important. They believe it shows a clear pattern of abuse and helps prove that Diddy was running a group involved in illegal activities. They think it supports the current charges and shows that Diddy has done these things for a long time.
Diddy’s trial is supposed to start on May 5. He recently got even more charges for sex trafficking and prostitution. One of his former lawyers, Anthony Ricco, quit the case in February, saying he couldn’t keep working for Diddy.
Both sides are strongly defending their positions. Prosecutors say the new evidence proves Diddy forced people into sex without their consent. Diddy’s lawyers say the evidence is unfair and could ruin his chances of a fair trial.
