Coldplay may not have taken home any awards at the 2023 Grammy Awards, but their frontman, Chris Martin, made a rare appearance to present the coveted Record of the Year award. After a harrowing health scare earlier this year, Martin’s return to the stage has fans feeling relieved and overjoyed.
It’s been four months since the “Paradise” singer and his band were forced to cancel shows due to a “serious lung infection.” In October, Coldplay shared the news on social media, stating that Martin had been put under strict doctor’s orders to rest and recover. The band apologized to fans and asked them to hold on to their tickets, promising to announce rescheduled dates in early 2023.
And so, on Feb. 5, Martin made his return to the spotlight, presenting the Record of the Year award to Lizzo for her hit song, “About Damn Time.” The singer stepped out on stage in a grey knit beanie and jumper, reminiscent of the cover art of his album, Music of the Spheres.
Although Coldplay didn’t take home any awards this year, fans were just happy to see Martin back in action. In the past few months, the singer has kept a low profile, only making a cameo on the Feb. 4 episode of Saturday Night Live.
Martin and Coldplay were nominated for Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. However, they lost the first two awards to Harry Styles and the third one to Sam Smith and Kim Petras.
Despite the losses, Coldplay is still going strong, having recently announced rescheduled South America dates and a new four-city West Coast tour with support from H.E.R. and 070 Shake. Fans are excited to see the band back in action and, most importantly, Martin back in good health.
