Coldplay Break Concert Attendance Record

Coldplay is halfway through their Australian tour and has already set a new attendance record in the country. They are promoting their albums Music of the Spheres (2021) and Moon Music (2024), which reached No. 4 and No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts. The tour started at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on October 30, and their fourth show in the city ended on November 3. With that said, a Coldplay singer also fell through a trapdoor recently.

The tour has included some surprises, like a guest appearance by Ralph Macchio from The Karate Kid during a performance of the song about the movie. After the Melbourne shows, it was announced that Coldplay broke the record for the most fans attending a band’s concert at Marvel Stadium, with 227,000 people attending all four shows.

Marvel Stadium shared this news on Instagram, confirming that Coldplay had set a new attendance record for a band at the venue. The previous record for the largest concert was held by Adele, who had 77,327 fans at her show on March 19, 2017. Ed Sheeran later set a record for the biggest concert series by a single artist, drawing 257,751 fans across four shows in March 2018.

Before Coldplay, the record was held by the Australian band AC/DC, which had 181,495 fans over three shows in February 2010. Coldplay’s new record puts them in third place for all-time attendance at Marvel Stadium, just behind Pink’s Summer Carnival Tour, which brought in 228,000 fans over four shows earlier this year.

This is Coldplay’s first tour in Australia since 2016, though they did perform two shows in Perth in 2023 because of a special deal with the state’s tourism board. They will finish their Australian tour with four shows at Sydney’s Accor Stadium this week.
