Britney Spears Skips May 4 DUI Court Hearing
Ms Britney Spears will not attend her scheduled court date on 4 May in Ventura County following her March DUI arrest, according to a report citing sources familiar with her plans. The update comes as the singer faces proceedings connected to a traffic stop in Southern California.
NewsNation reported that Ms Spears is not expected at the 8:15am hearing at Ventura County Superior Court after police allegedly pulled her over in March on suspicion of driving under the influence, saying officers observed erratic driving and speeding on the 101 freeway near Newbury Park, California.
The outlet said Ms Spears’ representative described the arrest at the time as “an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” adding that she intended to “take the right steps and comply with the law” and that her loved ones would help create a plan to support her wellbeing.
The report also stated that Ms Spears is in an out-of-state treatment facility and is expected to remain there for at least 90 days, reflecting a wider trend toward longer stays than the 30-day programmes historically used by many centres. Britpop News has previously reported that Britney Spears entered an out-of-state treatment programme in the weeks after her arrest.
A spokesperson for Ms Spears declined to comment to NewsNation. Court records and attorneys involved in the case were not cited in the report, and details of how the May hearing will proceed without her appearance were not immediately clear.
