Report: Spears family feel helpless amid claims
Britney Spears’ family are said to feel “utterly helpless” as the singer continues to attract headlines over her recent behaviour, according to an item republished by Yahoo from Star magazine.
An entertainment reporter, Mr Jeff Sneider, claimed he saw the 44-year-old “screaming and barking” while dining at Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks, California, on May 13, and alleged she tried to light a cigarette indoors and “picked up a knife” at one point, Yahoo reported.
A representative for Ms Spears disputed that account, telling People the pop star was having a “quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard” and was recounting a story about her dog barking at neighbours. The Yahoo write-up said an unnamed insider dismissed the denial, saying there were “too many eyewitnesses” and that the singer’s relatives were now “just spectators to her life”.
The report added that Ms Spears is estranged from most of her family apart from her sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, and claimed her mother, Ms Lynne Spears, and brother, Mr Bryan Spears, do not want to “co-sign” what was described as a “self-destructive path”. In earlier Britpop News coverage, Ms Spears’ camp denied claims of a knife incident at an LA restaurant amid wider scrutiny of the evening.
It also referenced a previous report that Ms Spears sought treatment after a March DUI arrest but left after a few weeks, and said she later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
