Britney Spears Dancer Details ‘Bizarre’ Domination Auditions
A former Britney Spears backup dancer has described what he called a “bizarre” audition process for the pop star’s cancelled Britney: Domination Las Vegas residency, recalling that the early choreography choices left performers unsure what kind of show was being built. The account comes from choreographer and dancer Mr Locky Brownlie, who discussed his experience during a recent podcast appearance.
In his recollection, OK! reported that Brownlie said dancers were taught a hip-hop style to songs including “Toxic” and “I’m a Slave 4 U”, prompting conversations among performers about whether that would be the residency’s final direction, before the production ultimately shifted toward “jazz funk” and more provocative choreography.
Brownlie also said he met Spears at a callback audition where she sat in front watching the dancers, describing it as a personal career highlight. He added that Spears paused the session for his group and told organisers she wanted to teach them something, before getting up to demonstrate a short sequence and filming it.
The residency was announced on 18 October 2018 at Park MGM in Las Vegas and was scheduled to begin in February 2019, according to the report. In January 2019, Spears said she was cancelling the show and stepping back from work to focus on her family following a serious health emergency involving her father.
Brownlie’s comments have resurfaced amid continued public interest in Spears’ life and career, coming shortly after coverage in which Britney Spears debuted a sleek hairstyle after a reported rehab stay. The recollection offers a rare glimpse into a major project that was built, cast and promoted, but never reached the stage.
