Britney Spears Faces DUI Charge After Stop
Britney Spears has been charged with allegedly driving under the influence after she was arrested and booked in Southern California earlier this week, in an incident that has again put the singer’s legal troubles under public scrutiny. The 44-year-old was arrested on Wednesday, March 4, and released early Thursday, with a court appearance expected in May.
The stop followed reports of dangerous driving, with Fox News reporting that Spears was seen driving erratically at a high rate of speed while travelling southbound on U.S.-101 before the California Highway Patrol pulled her over and carried out field sobriety tests.
According to the outlet, dispatch audio indicated officers followed her for a period on the freeway and other roads in the greater Los Angeles area before initiating the stop. The report said Spears showed signs of impairment and that chemical test results were still pending at the time of publication.
A representative for Spears described the incident as “completely inexcusable” in a statement to the publication, adding that Spears intended to comply with the law. In recent Britpop News coverage, Spears’ brief first marriage has also resurfaced after the arrest, with her ex Jason Alexander defending Britney Spears after the DUI charge.
The case marks another high-profile moment for Spears following years of legal and personal turbulence, including the end of her conservatorship in 2021. Any next steps in the matter are expected to become clearer once test results are finalised and she appears in court on the scheduled date.
