Blur just made a huge announcement that has been sweeping through the internet. It has just been announced that they will be reuniting for a show at Wembley Stadium in London next July. What’s more is that it’ll be their first show in eight years following the tour in support of 2015’s The Magic Whip. According to the Blur Fan Club, Dave Rowntree revealed there may be ‘warm up’ shows for the fan club.
Damon stated about the upcoming show: “We really love playing these songs and thought it’s about time we did it again,” and Graham Coxon added: “I’m really looking forward to playing with my Blur brothers again and revisiting all those great songs. Blur live shows are always amazing for me. A nice guitar and an amp turned right up and loads of smiling faces.”
Slowthai, Self Esteem, and Jockstrap will serve as openers at the show, which will take place on July 8. Tickets go on sale this Friday, November 11. Below, you can check out the official announcement which has been making its way heavily.
Will this lead to a new album? It’s hard to say. This could be a full time thing yet again, or we could be looking at a one off show to end out the band. There really have not been any words on this as of yet, or as of the public eye just yet. That said, James Rowntree recently said: “I literally never know what’s going to happen next with Damon. It might be the last show, it might [lead to] a new album. It’s part of the fun of it, I literally never know what’s going to happen. It’s part of the terror of being in Blur.”
Special thanks to Stereo Gum and NME.
