The evolution of the Arctic Monkeys is clear for all to see . From the humble beginnings of a stripped back Sheffield indie rock outfit the band have adjusted, experimented and evolved their sound album upon album, even entering the realms of psychedelic ballads and funky R’n’B. With the release of their 5th studio album, “AM” due for release on the 9th of September this year, we can once again expect a further evolution of their sound. “R U Mine”, “Do I Wanna Know?” and “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” are the singles which have already been released off the new album.
Alex Turner has recently described the sound on the new album as “sounding like Dr Dre”. This in fact is an accurate interpretation of the new sound. The sound is based around R’n’B drum beats with catchy and repetitive guitar riffs and a touch of dark lyrical swagger. If “AM” reaches number 1 in the UK album chart then it will be the 5th Arctic Monkeys album in a row to reach top spot. The early signs are certainly looking good. The Artic Monkeys are back yet again with a new dimension, a new sound and a new found swagger. Only time will tell if this album proves yet another resounding success for Turner and co.
“AM” is due for release on the 9th September.
