A Hollywood Hills home with a dark history is up for sale again. This house is known for being the place where actress Brittany Murphy collapsed and died at the age of 32 on December 20, 2009. Five months later, her husband, Simon Monjack, was found dead in the same home. Since then, there have been many questions and theories about their deaths, with some suggesting the house might be linked to what happened.
The house has been sold several times since Murphy and Monjack’s deaths. Now, it is listed for $17,995,000. It has been renovated, with updates to the outside, entryway, and inside spaces. But its dark past still makes it famous. Murphy bought the house from Britney Spears in 2003 for $3.85 million, and she lived there with Monjack until their deaths.
Murphy’s cause of death was pneumonia, anemia, and drug intoxication. Monjack’s mother suggested that mold in the house could have caused hallucinations, but this was dismissed by the medical examiner in 2010. Both Murphy and Spears thought something was wrong with the house. Spears, who lived there when dating Justin Timberlake, said she had a scary experience and left, believing she had seen bad spirits.
Murphy, while not claiming to see spirits, didn’t like the house. Monjack said in an interview in 2011 that Murphy would often ask to stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel instead of their home, which made her feel uncomfortable. The house’s strange history and its connection to the couple’s deaths continue to draw attention.
