Princess Kate Shares Impact of Cancer Treatment
Princess Kate has spoken candidly about how cancer treatment can affect the body and mindset, during a surprise visit to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester on Thursday. The Princess of Wales, 44, met patients undergoing chemotherapy and discussed the physical and emotional changes that can follow a diagnosis.
While speaking with patients in the Oak Road Treatment Centre, Hello Magazine reported that she told one group: “Your body changes so much, not just physically, emotionally, but the deeper side of ourselves,” adding that the experience “puts so much in perspective and you hold onto what’s important.”
The Princess also highlighted the effect on family members, noting that “it’s hard for the loved ones” when one patient spoke about relying on his wife’s support. During the visit she met former patient Mr Neil Neaverson and praised tailored approaches to recovery, saying cancer “changes you in so many ways, emotionally and physiologically”.
Her appearance at the Manchester centre follows a series of engagements linked to cancer support work, including her recent attendance at a Cancer Research UK event with King Charles.
The visit ended with an emotional moment on the unit as the Princess joined staff and families to congratulate a patient marking the end of chemotherapy by ringing the bell, telling her: “Well done, you. What a journey.”
