King Charles and Camilla Face Wedding Day Clash
King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to attend Peter Phillips’ wedding to Ms Harriet Sperling on 6 June, but their diary could force them to leave the celebrations early as another major royal engagement falls on the same day.
Hello Magazine reported that the King and Queen will attend Derby Day at Epsom Downs for the first time as monarchs on 6 June, creating a potential clash with the ceremony at All Saints Church in Cirencester.
The magazine said Their Majesties, who are joint patrons of The Jockey Club, are due at the Surrey racecourse after inheriting the patronage from the late Queen Elizabeth II. Epsom’s General Manager Mr Jim Allen said the racecourse was “honoured and thrilled” by the visit, adding that their attendance would be “a proud moment” for the team behind the event.
While guest details have not been officially confirmed, the report suggested the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Edinburgh family are expected to attend, alongside Princess Anne, Captain Mark Phillips, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, Ms Zara Tindall and Mr Mike Tindall. The development comes amid continuing interest in the King’s public appearances, including a recent lighter moment during an engagement that drew attention to his busy schedule.
The dual engagements underline the pressure of royal calendars at the start of the summer season, with the wedding and Derby Day both major fixtures that traditionally attract significant public and media interest.
