Royal author alleges Prince Andrew used vulgar pick-up line
A royal biographer has alleged that Prince Andrew used a crude chat-up line when approaching women, in claims published as new material is prepared for an updated edition of a book about the Duke of York. The claims were attributed to author Dr Andrew Lownie, whose book about the House of York is due to be released in paperback with additional content.
Dr Lownie told Page Six that Prince Andrew’s alleged “chat-up line” was a graphic sexual remark, which he said reflected what he described as “an extraordinary sense of entitlement.”
In the same account, Dr Lownie also claimed the former Duke of York behaved inappropriately during an encounter with a female flight attendant and alleged there were multiple stories of him embarrassing women in social settings. A representative for Prince Andrew did not immediately respond to a request for comment, according to the report.
The claims add to ongoing scrutiny of the Duke’s past behaviour, which has been the subject of renewed attention in recent years, including a previous biography-led wave of reporting about Prince Andrew’s conduct carried by Britpop News.
The paperback release of Dr Lownie’s book, which is expected to include new material, is likely to prompt further coverage of the Duke of York and fresh questions about how Buckingham Palace responds to allegations about members of the wider royal family.
