Taylor Swift prenup could cover Kelce expenses
Ms Taylor Swift’s financial position could shape any future prenuptial agreement with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, with a lawyer outlining how couples with significant wealth disparities often structure living expenses and asset protection in marriage.
Attorney Sarah Luetto told Page Six that when one partner is worth substantially more than the other, prenuptial agreements frequently provide that the wealthier party pays the couple’s living expenses while the less wealthy party preserves their separate estate.
Ms Luetto, a partner in Blank Rome’s Matrimonial & Family Law Group who does not represent Swift or Kelce, added that some agreements also involve the wealthier person “gifting or transmuting” part of their estate either to community property or the other party’s separate property, with amounts that can increase over time to reflect the length of a marriage.
She also said the pair’s intellectual property and other hard-to-value assets could be a key issue in any agreement, and suggested a prenup would likely keep their estates separate, particularly given Swift’s efforts to buy back her masters and protect her music catalogue. The couple’s public relationship has drawn major attention, including previous appearances such as when they stepped out together in London.
Ms Luetto noted that multiple residences across different states may lead to choice-of-law provisions determining which jurisdiction’s laws would apply in a dispute, and said confidentiality clauses—such as non-disparagement and non-disclosure terms—can also be used to protect privacy.
