Meghan Markle Vow Renewal Plans ‘Nightmare’ for Queen
Meghan Markle has been linked in a new report to an alleged plan to film a vow renewal with Prince Harry for a reality-style TV project, a move said to have been strongly at odds with the late Queen Elizabeth II’s view of how royal life should be presented.
Express.co.uk reported that Meghan discussed the idea while appearing on the YouTube programme Get Down With Sean and Marley during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s recent Australia trip, after receiving a Speedo with “Aussie Bum” on the back and joking it would be for her husband if they renewed their vows.
The report cited an “insider” saying Queen Elizabeth regretted allowing cameras into royal life and believed it blurred the line between monarchy and celebrity, adding that “the thought of Meghan turning her marriage into reality television would have had her cartwheeling in her tomb.” The comments were framed against the backdrop of the 1969 BBC documentary Royal Family, which offered viewers access to private moments including a family barbecue, television viewing and Christmas at Sandringham.
In the article, the source claimed the Queen later came to see the documentary as too revealing and moved to prevent it being broadcast again, arguing it diminished the monarchy’s mystique and made it more vulnerable to tabloid obsession and celebrity culture. The latest claims come as the Sussexes continue to face intense public scrutiny, following Prince Harry and Meghan hitting back at ‘unnamed sources’ claims in previous Britpop News coverage.
Neither the Duke and Duchess of Sussex nor Buckingham Palace have publicly commented on the specific allegation about a filmed vow renewal. However, the report underlines the continuing tension between modern celebrity-driven formats and the traditional approach to privacy long associated with the Royal Family.
