Kate Middleton ‘cut off’ Prince Andrew first, author claims
Princess Kate was the first senior royal to stop engaging with Prince Andrew at family occasions, according to claims made in a new interview with royal author Mr Christopher Andersen. The comments, published on Friday, add to ongoing scrutiny of the Duke of York’s position within the Royal Family following years of controversy.
Mr Andersen told Page Six that the Princess of Wales “refused to speak to Andrew at family functions and during holidays” and was “the first royal to cut him off”, arguing that she acted decisively to avoid further reputational damage to the monarchy.
In the same interview, Mr Andersen alleged that Prince Andrew asked “through intermediaries” whether he could attend Princess Kate’s Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey by entering discreetly, but was told he was not wanted on camera. He described her approach as forward-looking, citing her role as the wife of the future king and the mother of Prince George, who is next in line after Prince William.
The claims echo previous reporting that Prince William and Kate reportedly ‘cut off’ Prince Andrew as the couple sought to distance themselves from the continuing fallout surrounding him.
Kensington Palace did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment, the outlet reported, and the article noted Prince Andrew has denied allegations linked to Jeffrey Epstein while reaching a financial settlement in a separate civil case.
