Prince William ‘Undermined’ as Sussex Trips Spark Anger
Prince William has reportedly been left feeling “undermined” by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle amid renewed tension over the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s recent high-profile appearances overseas and comments about their standing within the royal family. The claims come as observers continue to debate how the Sussexes’ activities are viewed by the Palace and by senior royals.
In a report published on 5 May, Wonderwall quoted a source speaking to Closer as alleging that the Prince of Wales believes he is being “totally undermined” and is convinced Harry and Meghan are responsible, amid concerns about information flows inside the Palace and differing views between William and King Charles on how to handle the Sussexes.
The same report also referenced further claims that Palace figures were angered by what were described as unofficial trips by Harry and Meghan to Australia and Jordan, with one source quoted as saying “It looks like a full-scale royal tour without the permission slip.” It added that Prince Harry, speaking to an ITV reporter during a visit to Ukraine, rejected the idea that “not a working royal” resonated with him, saying: “No. I will always be part of the royal family.”
The latest allegations follow continued coverage of the rift between the brothers, with previous reporting that Prince William reportedly keeps distance from Prince Harry as relations remain strained in the years since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties.
Neither Kensington Palace nor representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have publicly responded to the claims. The report is based on anonymous sourcing, but it is likely to add to scrutiny of how the Palace manages unofficial overseas appearances by non-working royals, and how that intersects with the monarchy’s public messaging.
