Britney Spears DUI Reduced in Plea Deal

Britney Spears has avoided a DUI conviction after reaching a plea deal in Ventura County that reduced the charge to reckless driving involving alcohol, commonly known as “wet reckless”. The court outcome was confirmed on Monday in proceedings connected to the pop star’s March arrest.

TMZ reported that prosecutors agreed to dismiss the DUI charge as part of the deal, with Ms Spears placed on 12 months’ probation and ordered not to possess drugs without a valid prescription, alongside continuing mental health and substance abuse treatment requirements.

Ms Spears did not attend the hearing in person, with her lawyer, Mr Michael Goldstein, appearing on her behalf in a Ventura County courtroom at about 9am. In a statement quoted by TMZ, Mr Goldstein said: “Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct. She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI.”

The outcome follows earlier Britpop News reporting that she was expected to miss the May 4 court hearing, as well as previous coverage of her treatment plans after the arrest.

As part of the agreement, Ms Spears must complete a DUI class and pay state-mandated fines and fees, with the warning that any probation violation could lead to a jail sentence. The reduced charge is a significant legal development for the singer as she continues treatment and attempts to stabilise her personal circumstances.
