Palace Reportedly Criticizes Meghan Markle Over Candle Names Linked to Royal Titles

Palace Source Criticises Meghan Candle Titles

Buckingham Palace has been reported to be unhappy after the Duchess of Sussex referenced her children’s royal titles in new products released through her As Ever lifestyle brand. The row centres on scented candles that appear to nod to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, as debate continues over how the Sussexes use royal associations in commercial work.

GB News reported that the As Ever Mother’s Day collection includes two signature candles priced at £47 each, with “No506” named for Archie’s May 6 birthdate and “No604” named for Lilibet’s June 4 birthdate, marking what the outlet described as the first time the brand has created products directly linked to the couple’s children.

The report said a palace source criticised the approach as “an outrageous use of their titles” and claimed the late Queen Elizabeth II never intended for the Sussex family to profit from official royal titles. GB News also said a source close to Meghan insisted she had been “very tasteful” in referencing the children and had Prince Harry’s support.

The Sussexes agreed not to use their HRH styles publicly after stepping back as working royals in 2020, but their titles as Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain in use, and the children are styled Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex. In recent Britpop News coverage, Prince William was reported to be considering potential changes to the Sussex titles, a backdrop that continues to heighten sensitivity around branding and royal status.

In the GB News report, the Duchess said in a handwritten letter included with influencer gift boxes that she developed the scents over the last year to evoke “a special memory” with her children. Meghan has been contacted for comment, the outlet added, as the collection is promoted ahead of Mother’s Day in the United States on May 10.
