DJ recalls Prince William’s Boujis song request
Prince William’s early-2000s nightlife has resurfaced after a London DJ described an awkward interaction with the future King during a crowded bank holiday set at the private members’ club Boujis. The recollection centres on a 2006 evening when Prince William and Prince Harry were among the young “posh uni” crowd at the South Kensington hotspot.
In an interview, Hello Magazine reported that DJ Mr Sam Young said Prince William approached him in the booth to request Mint Royale’s “Sexiest Man in Jamaica”, but he did not have the track, prompting what he called a “horrific” moment before offering Shakedown’s “At Night” instead.
Mr Young said Prince William accepted the alternative and then “partied the night away”, adding that both brothers were friendly on later visits, with Prince Harry “more of the jokester”. He also claimed the encounter later led to press attention ahead of Prince William’s 2011 wedding to Catherine, Princess of Wales, after rumours circulated that the DJ might be involved in the music for the ceremony.
The anecdotes about the Prince of Wales’ youthful social life sit alongside continued public fascination with his relationship with his brother, after reports that Prince William reportedly cut off Prince Harry after a 2022 fallout following tensions within the family.
Boujis, once described as a “Studio 54 for aristocrats”, has long been linked to a particular era of celebrity and royal nights out, and the latest account adds another detail to the lore around the club’s most famous guests.
