Meghan Markle Upset Over ‘Royal’ MasterChef Teaser
Meghan Markle has reportedly been left unhappy after promotional material for her upcoming appearance on MasterChef Australia used wording she and her team had wanted to avoid. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, filmed her segment during her recent Australia trip, and the teaser clip was shared by broadcaster Network Ten shortly afterwards.
In the clip, judge Ms Poh Ling Yeow tells viewers “we’ve had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before” before introducing “The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle”, and Daily Record reported that a source said Meghan’s team were “very frustrated” and had “specifically” asked that the word “royal” not be used.
According to the report, the source claimed Meghan and her team only became aware of the exact phrasing after the promotional material was released publicly, adding that they were outside the doors when the introduction was filmed. The teaser has also drawn attention to the way Meghan was named in the introduction, amid previous comments from the Duchess about how she prefers to be referred to in certain contexts.
The segment is part of a wider run of public engagements in Australia, following earlier reporting that she had booked a MasterChef Australia spot during the tour as her media schedule expanded.
Meghan’s appearance comes as she continues to speak publicly on mental health and the impact of social media, including discussing the personal toll of online abuse during events in Melbourne. The MasterChef cameo is expected to air later in the current series, with Ten continuing to promote the episode online.
