Expert says Meghan took ‘support’ role on Australia tour
Meghan Markle was said to have taken a more supportive position alongside Prince Harry as the couple began their four-day Australia trip with engagements in Melbourne, including a visit to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Body language analyst Ms Judi James told The Express US that the tour was already appearing “royal-ish” in style and said Meghan “seems to be defining her role here as one of support to her husband” as he led the walkabout and hospital interactions, Daily Express reported.
In the analysis, Ms James described Prince Harry as looking “dominant” in the crowd, including a raised-hand “hail” gesture and an open-mouthed expression of delight as supporters gathered to greet the Sussexes. She said Meghan’s posture appeared more “submissive” as she used a two-handed clasp of his hand, turned towards him and mirrored his gaze.
The Melbourne stop formed the opening stage of the Sussexes’ itinerary, after which they are expected to continue with further public-facing appearances in Australia as part of the four-day programme previously outlined in their planned schedule for the trip.
Ms James also pointed to what she called “performed humility” from Prince Harry, including placing a hand over his heart as he arrived, and suggested the couple were keen to maintain physical contact during the walkabout, describing a moment where they adjusted their handhold as they changed positions.
The body language commentary adds to the intense scrutiny surrounding the Sussexes’ return to large-scale public engagements, with their early Melbourne appearance prompting comparisons in some quarters to the public reception once seen on royal tours.
