Celebrities ‘nervous’ about socialising with Meghan, report claims
Meghan Markle is being linked to fresh claims of Hollywood wariness after a reported backlash to her and Prince Harry attending Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party last year. The Duchess of Sussex and the Duke of Sussex made what was described as a surprise appearance at the event, with commentary suggesting the fallout has made some celebrities more hesitant about spending time with the couple.
Express reported that the couple attended the 007-themed celebration on Remembrance Day in the UK, prompting criticism online and among some royal commentators, and quoted an entertainment journalist describing the reputational “pile up” that can follow even a social invitation.
According to the report, Mr Matt Donnelly of Variety made the remarks while discussing the party photos and the reaction that followed. He suggested that established showbusiness figures might want to be welcoming to Prince Harry because of his family background and public work, but can find themselves caught up in the subsequent media storm.
The claims come amid continuing scrutiny of the Duchess’s public profile, after reports she missed out on an invite to the 2026 Met Gala added to debate over where the Sussexes now sit within A-list social circles.
The Express report said the party was held at the Beverly Hills home of Jeff Bezos and Ms Lauren Sánchez and was attended by high-profile guests, including Beyoncé and Jay Z, Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey and Adele. It added that images of Meghan and Prince Harry circulating online were later deleted from social media, after being posted by members of the Kardashian-Jenner family.
