Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s next move questioned after Netflix split
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are facing renewed scrutiny over their post-royal plans after a reported setback involving her lifestyle venture, As Ever. The Duchess of Sussex and the Duke of Sussex have pursued media and commercial projects since stepping back as senior working royals in 2020, but the latest development has prompted public questions about what comes next for the couple and their brand.
The Express reported that Netflix has ended its partnership connected to As Ever, the lifestyle brand Meghan has been building around consumer products including items such as jams, teas, wine and honey.
Ms Olivia Bennett, a digital PR director at agency Go Up, told the publication the shift would generate headlines but did not necessarily indicate “long-term damage” to the Sussexes’ wider brand. She said partnerships in the sector can be fluid, particularly when expectations are high, and argued the focus now is on what the couple decide to do next.
The news comes amid wider attention on the couple’s relationship with the streaming service, after warnings about their Netflix polo project were raised in separate commentary about the Sussexes’ programming prospects.
Ms Bennett added that the situation was “recoverable” from a PR standpoint and that Meghan’s move into lifestyle and wellness has been a long-term trajectory, meaning the challenge is to show As Ever can stand independently. The report also said the couple are preparing to travel to Australia later this month.
