Book Claims Meghan Vetted Prince Harry Speeches
A forthcoming book about Queen Elizabeth II claims Meghan Markle began closely overseeing Prince Harry’s public appearances soon after their wedding, including checking the speeches he delivered on overseas tours. The account, attributed to royal writer Mr Hugo Vickers, also describes alleged disputes around day-to-day life at Frogmore Cottage before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties.
In an extract highlighted by Page Six, Mr Vickers writes that “every speech” Prince Harry made during the couple’s Australia and Fiji tour in October 2018 was vetted by Meghan Markle, and that observers felt the Duke’s speeches had taken on what he described as a “Californian ring”.
The same report says Mr Vickers claims Meghan Markle refused to have cars parked on nearby sports grounds because they were visible from Frogmore Cottage, and that she was told off by the late Queen after being rude to gardeners. The book also alleges Prince Harry appeared “uncomfortable” during 2019 and seemed unhappy at Easter.
In discussing the Sussexes’ early years as working royals, the extract follows other recent coverage of tensions around royal protocol, including claims that Meghan Markle clashed with the late Queen over wedding tiara arrangements.
The book also revisits the breakdown in relations that preceded the couple’s January 2020 decision to step down, saying Prince Harry sought a “half-in, half-out” arrangement before being told it would be “all in or all out”. Buckingham Palace has not commented on the new claims.
