Prince Harry Texts to Journalist Spotlighted in Court
Prince Harry has been drawn back into scrutiny over his relationship with the media after a set of messages he exchanged with a British journalist more than a decade ago was referenced in the closing stages of his privacy lawsuit in London’s High Court. The Duke of Sussex is among a group of high-profile claimants alleging unlawful information-gathering by Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday.
Fox News reported that messages sent between December 2011 and January 2012 show the Duke referring to Mail on Sunday journalist Ms Charlotte Griffiths as “sugar” and signing off with “mwah” followed by strings of kisses.
The article says the texts emerged after Prince Harry told the court he did not have friendships with journalists and that people in his close circle would not speak to the press. According to the report, the Duke later said he cut off contact once he realised Ms Griffiths worked for the Mail, and his legal action is focused on allegations that tabloids used unlawful methods over a period spanning the early 1990s through the 2010s.
The disclosure comes as the Duke awaits the outcome of the case and follows earlier developments in the proceedings, including his push for major damages against Associated Newspapers as part of the wider claim brought alongside figures such as Sir Elton John and Ms Elizabeth Hurley.
Associated Newspapers has denied the allegations, arguing the reporting in question was sourced legitimately, and the court is expected to issue a ruling at a later date.
