Prince Harry ‘Rude’ to Queen Before Wedding, Book Says
Prince Harry was reportedly “rude” to Queen Elizabeth II during a tense exchange in the run-up to his wedding to Meghan Markle, according to claims repeated by royal biographer Dr Sally Bedell Smith. The account says the late monarch felt sidelined at points during the planning for the May 2018 ceremony at Windsor.
InStyle said Dr Bedell Smith wrote on her Substack that Queen Elizabeth felt “left out” in the lead-up to the wedding and was “dismayed” by the Duke of Sussex’s approach in one conversation roughly three months before the ceremony, leaving her “very worried” about him, with the exchange said to have lasted around 10 minutes.
According to the report, Dr Bedell Smith cited three areas that unsettled the Queen, including that Prince Harry had asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to officiate without first getting permission from the Dean of Windsor. The article also says the Queen was confused about why Ms Markle would not share details of her wedding dress ahead of the day.
The biographer additionally claimed the Queen was concerned that Ms Markle and the Prince and Princess of Wales were “not working well together”, an issue presented as an early sign of later tensions within the family. Recent BritpopNews coverage has also followed the wider rift, including claims that Prince Harry missed a chance to reunite with King Charles during a U.S. visit as speculation continues about future family contact.
The report says the relationship between the Queen and her grandson was later repaired before the wedding, but it places the alleged exchange within the broader scrutiny surrounding the Sussexes’ decision to step back from royal duties and the continuing fallout that followed.
