Prince Harry Texts to Journalist Raised in Court
Prince Harry’s privacy case against Associated Newspapers heard details of messages he exchanged with journalist Ms Charlotte Griffiths, as the High Court trial concluded in London on Monday. The Duke of Sussex is among several claimants bringing claims of unlawful information gathering against the publisher, which denies the allegations.
The court was told Prince Harry referred to Ms Griffiths as “sugar” and said he missed their “movie snuggles” in a series of messages after what she described as a “weekend of naughtiness” with friends, The Sun reported.
According to the report, Prince Harry sent a Facebook friend request to Ms Griffiths after a party hosted by a mutual friend in 2011, but later said he “cut contact” when he realised she was a journalist. The Duke is one of seven claimants in the case, with others including Sir Elton John and Ms Liz Hurley.
The proceedings sit alongside broader reporting on the Duke’s legal fight with the publisher, with previous Britpop News coverage noting that Prince Harry is seeking major damages in the Mail case as part of the long-running dispute.
Mr Justice Nicklin said his written judgment “will take some time”, following the close of the trial. The ruling will determine key issues in the claims and is likely to be closely watched for what it means for the wider group action and the publisher’s response to the allegations.
