Prince Harry Reportedly Fears Children Could Lose Titles
Prince Harry is said to be concerned that his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, could one day lose their royal titles as tensions between the Sussexes and the Royal Family continue. The claim centres on discussions about titles and status following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure from front-line royal duties and their subsequent life in California.
Express reported that royal author Mr Tom Bower alleges the Duke feared his children’s titles could be removed after the unprecedented decision to strip Prince Andrew of his honorary military titles.
In his book Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family, Mr Bower writes that the sanctions against the Duke of York prompted Prince Harry to feel his own status was “no longer invincible”. He claims the episode made the Duke reflect on what might happen under a future reign, suggesting that Prince William’s stance could harden amid ongoing criticism directed from Montecito.
The titles themselves became a public point of focus after the Sussexes confirmed in 2023 that their children would use prince and princess styling, following King Charles III’s accession and the announcement of Princess Lilibet’s christening. The family has lived in California since 2020, and the report notes that Archie is believed not to have visited the UK since the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022, while any future trip could again place the issue of security and royal protocol under scrutiny, as outlined when the Home Office reviewed Prince Harry’s UK security again.
While Buckingham Palace has not commented on the book’s claims, the report underlines how debates about royal roles, titles and public representation remain sensitive amid the continuing family rift. Any formal change to titles would be constitutionally and publicly significant, ensuring the subject remains closely watched as the Sussexes consider future visits and their children grow older.
