Tom Bower Defends Book After Sussex Statement
Mr Tom Bower has responded after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dismissed his forthcoming book as “deranged conspiracy and melodrama”, as the author renewed his criticism of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s prospects in Hollywood.
The Mirror reported that Mr Bower said a recent Variety piece about the Sussexes’ Netflix partnership backed up what he wrote in his book Betrayal, adding that the couple were “reaching the end of the road in Hollywood”.
In comments cited in the report, Mr Bower said the Duke and Duchess should return to Britain in July to meet King Charles and be “revalidated as royals”, but added that he believed “that option… will be denied to them”. The Mirror also quoted a statement issued on behalf of the Sussexes which said Mr Bower had “long crossed the line from criticism into fixation”.
The couple’s rebuttal follows excerpts from Mr Bower’s new book, in which the Sussexes accused the author of promoting “elaborate theories” about people he “does not know and has never met”, while urging those “interested in facts” to “look elsewhere”.
The row comes amid continued scrutiny of the Sussexes’ streaming arrangements and their wider commercial strategy since stepping back as working royals in 2020. Mr Bower’s book is scheduled for release later this month.
