Netflix Denies Being “Done” With Harry, Meghan
Netflix and representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have pushed back on claims that the streaming giant is “done” with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, after a US trade publication examined their production deal and the performance of recent projects.
Daily Mail reported that the feature, attributed to multiple unnamed insiders, alleged Netflix executives were frustrated by what was described as a pattern of repackaging the couple’s post-royal story and quoted one source as saying the mood was “We’re done”.
The same report said Netflix denied claims that chief executive Mr Ted Sarandos would not take a call with Meghan unless lawyers were present, describing the allegation as “absolutely inaccurate”. The couple’s attorney, Mr Michael J. Kump, also denied a series of assertions about meeting conduct, including an allegation that Meghan talked over Prince Harry, and said switching off audio or video during long virtual calls can be normal when working from home with young children.
The Daily Mail account also referenced claims that Netflix had been “annoyed” by the couple’s 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview and “blindsided” by Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, while a spokesperson for the Sussexes maintained they co-operated with the platform throughout. The latest row follows earlier coverage in which Meghan Markle rejected what she called “misogynistic” characterisations of her role in meetings.
Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back as senior working royals in 2020 and later signed a headline-making deal with Netflix, producing titles including the Harry & Meghan docuseries, with their agreement now framed publicly as a “first look” arrangement rather than a fully exclusive slate.
