King Charles ‘Washed Hands’ of Harry, Expert Claims
King Charles has been described by a royal commentator as having “washed his hands” of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as the couple prepare to travel to Australia next month.
Royal commentator Ms Ingrid Seward said she believes the King has “more important things to worry about” than the Sussexes’ plans, with Express reporting her remarks were made in a discussion on TalkTV about the couple’s forthcoming trip and their post-royal public profile.
In the broadcast segment, Ms Seward argued that Harry and Meghan were attempting to “promote themselves” and maintain visibility for commercial reasons, while suggesting the King would be unlikely to be preoccupied by what they are doing “at this moment”. The Express report also referred to criticism the couple have faced for undertaking visits that resemble the structure of official royal tours since stepping down as senior working royals in 2020.
The commentary comes amid a period of heightened scrutiny around the Royal Family, with the Express noting the King has faced a turbulent fortnight including protests outside Westminster Abbey ahead of the Commonwealth Day service. In separate Britpop News reporting, Prince Harry was reported to be keeping a low profile as his Australia visit approaches following renewed attention on the wider family.
Buckingham Palace has not publicly commented on Ms Seward’s assessment. The Sussexes have also not issued a statement about the TalkTV discussion, and details of their Australia schedule have not been formally confirmed by the Palace.
