Harry Styles Jokes About Prince Andrew on SNL
Harry Styles prompted a strong studio reaction after referencing Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor during his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live on 14 March, using the moment to contrast the appeal of “being boring” with the consequences of public scandal. The appearance also served as a high-profile return to live TV promotion following the release of his latest album earlier this month.
During the monologue, Styles spoke about taking up jogging in London and joked about “runner’s high” and “watermelon sugar high” before adding that he also “love[s] ecstasy”; Hello Magazine reported that the camera then cut to a photo of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor in the back of a police car following his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in a public office on 19 February, as Styles grimaced and loosened his collar.
Styles, 32, told the audience there was “something nice about being boring” for someone who has spent much of his life in the public eye, before swiftly moving on to discuss his new album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, which was released on 6 March. The report said the studio audience laughed wryly at the quip as he returned to music-related remarks.
The segment came as jokes about King Charles III’s brother have also surfaced in other mainstream entertainment moments, including awards-season hosting, and as public debate continues about Andrew’s standing and role in royal life. Styles’ SNL appearance also followed earlier coverage of his on-air performance moments, including when he kissed Ben Marshall during an SNL monologue in a separate segment that drew attention online.
With his latest release now out and live TV appearances back on his schedule, Styles’ monologue underlined how tightly pop promotion and current events can intersect—especially when a single punchline prompts a room-wide response.
