Grant Harrold: Harry Must ‘Win Public Over’
Prince Harry could be welcomed back into the royal fold if he takes steps to rebuild public support, according to comments attributed to a former royal staffer. The Duke of Sussex has remained largely estranged from the Royal Family since stepping back from official duties in early 2020 and moving to the United States with Meghan Markle.
Express reported that former royal butler Grant Harrold said Prince Harry and Ms Markle would need to “win the public over” for any return to a more traditional role, as he suggested the couple have recently leaned into appearances that resemble established royal-style engagements.
In remarks carried by the outlet, Mr Harrold pointed to the couple’s public activity and said he had noticed “more traditional royal stuff” rather than celebrity-focused appearances, adding that the Duke continues to support his charitable causes. He also raised the possibility that, if Prince Harry returned to the UK and resolved his security arrangements, he could take a more active role with causes he was involved in before leaving the UK.
The comments come amid ongoing discussion about whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could re-establish a relationship with the Royal Family, following previous Britpop News reporting that King Charles was reportedly considering a lodge offer to Prince Harry and Meghan as part of wider conversations about potential reconciliation.
No official change in the Duke’s status has been announced by Buckingham Palace, and the Sussexes’ representatives have not responded publicly to the specific claims. Any future role would likely depend on broader family relations and how the couple’s public work develops in the months ahead.
