Prince Harry Sidesteps Andrew Question in TV Interview
Prince Harry appeared uncomfortable during a Channel 4 News interview as a correspondent acknowledged the Duke of Sussex did not want to discuss his uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, during the segment. The exchange came as Prince Harry’s brief two-day visit to Jordan was ending, with the Prince using the interview to highlight the humanitarian emergency in Gaza and calls for aid access.
In the interview, Birmingham Live reported that the correspondent told Prince Harry he understood he did not wish to talk about “your family, your uncle, things back in London”, and said Prince Harry was in Jordan because he did not want to distract from the work he was doing around the World Health Organisation and Gaza.
The report said Prince Harry held eye contact with the reporter and remained silent as the remark was made, before the conversation moved on to his humanitarian message. During the interview, he said “the aid corridors need to be opened” and called for “full access for humanitarian organisations” to deliver assistance “to the people that need it the most”.
In a separate part of the programme, the correspondent said Prince Harry’s team had asked that questions focus on the trip rather than Andrew and the Prince’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, with the stated concern being that headlines would be diverted from events in Gaza and refugee camps in Jordan. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also spent time visiting Za’atari refugee camp and touring a World Central Kitchen site involved in food relief operations.
The interview underlined the Sussexes’ effort to keep attention on their humanitarian work, even as developments involving other members of the Royal Family continue to draw public scrutiny back in the UK.
