New Book Claims Harry-William Fight ‘Overblown’
Prince Harry’s account of a 2019 clash with Prince William, described in his memoir Spare, has been challenged in a new book which claims the argument “never actually got physical” despite the Duke of Sussex’s allegations of an altercation at Nottingham Cottage.
In extracts cited by Hello Magazine, royal editor Mr Russell Myers writes in William And Catherine: The Inside Story that sources close to the Prince of Wales insist Prince Harry’s recollection was “massively overblown” and that Prince William is “adamant there was no physical violence” during the confrontation.
The book says Prince William arranged to see his brother in early 2019 to question him about Meghan Markle’s behaviour towards palace staff, after which tensions escalated into what was described as “cross words exchanged”. Myers also quotes a source calling it a “cheap shot” to present the disagreement as more serious, while adding that Prince William’s own direct account has not been publicly given.
Prince Harry previously wrote that his brother grabbed him by the collar, ripped his necklace and knocked him to the floor, leaving him with injuries after he landed on a dog bowl; Britpop News has reported on related claims in coverage in which Prince William was said to deny there was any physical fight.
The latest reporting underlines the continuing strain between the brothers following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure from royal duties and subsequent public projects, including the Netflix series Harry & Meghan and the release of Spare. The Royal Household has not issued a new comment on the book’s claims.
