Prince Harry has caused a strong reaction in the UK after reports claimed he plans to invite King Charles III to attend and possibly open the Invictus Games when the event returns to Britain next year.
Some royal commentators believe the move by Prince Harry could be an attempt to ease tensions between him and his father. If the King does attend, it would be one of their most public appearances together in years, as the two have only had brief contact recently.
However, the idea has been heavily criticized on British television. Speaking on GB News, presenter Nana Akua called the reported plan embarrassing and accused Harry of acting like a spoiled brat. She argued that instead of making a public gesture, Harry should focus on rebuilding the relationship privately and bring his children to visit their grandfather. She also said many viewers felt uncomfortable with the invitation after Harry’s past public criticism of the UK and the royal family.
Not everyone agrees with that view. Royal commentator Ian Lloyd defended the idea, saying the King’s presence would bring global attention to the Invictus Games and highlight its importance. He suggested it could benefit both the event and the royal family’s image.
It would show the world they’re getting along,. “It would focus on the Games and help with publicity.”
Nana Akua doubled down on her criticism, saying, “I think a lot of people in this country are looking at this and thinking, ‘Harry is a spoilt brat,’ and perhaps he could just bring the kids to see the King because that’s really what this should be about. He’s slagged off this country and his own family, it’s all very embarrassing.”
