Prince William is currently on a royal tour in Brazil, and Prince Harry recently announced that he will be visiting Canada. Some people are claiming Harry is trying to upstage William, but Harry’s team says that is not true.
Harry’s spokesperson told the Daily Mail that Harry does not receive the same level of security as working royals, so his trips can only be announced much closer to the date. They said the events for this visit were planned almost a year ago and that the date of the main charity dinner was chosen by the charity, not Harry.
They explained that the visit falls during Remembrancetide, which traditionally runs from November 1 to 11 and has for over 100 years, so Harry cannot simply change those dates.
The spokesperson also said that trip announcements are always timed based on advice from security teams. Harry’s visit has been planned for months and the location is meaningful to him since the Invictus Games were held there in 2017.
The report also notes that the royal family was informed about Harry’s trip ahead of time, including the King.
