After a week of charity work in the U.K. and a visit with his father King Charles, Prince Harry made a surprise trip to Kyiv, Ukraine, on September 12, 2025. This was his second visit to Ukraine this year. He went to support wounded and injured soldiers and veterans through the Invictus Games Foundation, which helps service members recover.
Before accepting Ukraine’s invitation, Harry said he checked with Meghan Markle and the British government. He explained, “We can’t stop the war, but we can help people recover and remind others what is happening.”
Prince Harry arrived by train, and Ukrainian Railways shared a video of him stepping off a special “Superroyal Express.” He visited the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, met wounded soldiers like Vasyl, 38, and honored fallen Ukrainian and foreign soldiers at Independence Square (Maidan). Later that day, he planned to meet Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. Harry said that when he visited Lviv in April, the war damage was hard to see, but in Kyiv he could witness the real destruction.
Harry’s trip is linked to the Invictus Games, which Ukraine has joined since 2017. He first met Olga Rudnieva, founder of the Superhumans Center that gives prosthetics, surgery, and mental health care, during a chance meeting in New York. She told him the biggest help would be visiting Kyiv, which led to this visit and his focus on long-term recovery for those hurt by the war.
Before going to Ukraine, Harry spent a few days in the U.K. supporting causes he cares about. He went to the 2025 WellChild Awards, donated $1.5 million to Children in Need at Nottingham’s Community Recording Studio, visited the Centre for Blast Injury Studies, and joined a mental health talk for The Diana Award.
The highlight of his U.K. visit was having tea with King Charles at Clarence House on September 10. It was their first meeting in 19 months. Both the palace and Harry’s team confirmed the meeting and called it a good first step toward improving their relationship.
