Pop icon Britney Spears recently addressed a plane incident that sparked a media frenzy via E! Online.
The 43-year-old set the record straight in response to reports that alleged she lit and smoked a cigarette on board a flight—a violation of Federal Aviation Administration regulations—and that authorities were alerted and met her when the plane landed.
“Said I want a cigarette so bad !!!” Britney said on Instagram May 23rd, alongside a video of herself on a plane. “My friend put it in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!”
“I thought officials greeted me as support and I was like WOW I feel special !!!” she continued. “Am I famous or something ??? The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette !!!”
The incident took place while the “Oops… I Did It Again” singer was on a charter flight from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to Los Angeles with her security personnel May 22, People reported.
Citing multiple sources, the outlet noted that Britney lit a cigarette and then put it out after flight attendants told her to. According to the report, authorities later met her upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport and let her go with a warning.
Britney stated the plane incident was “actually incredibly funny.”
“Some planes I’ve been on you can’t smoke mostly but this one was different because the drink holders were on outside of seat !!!” she added. “Confession it was my first time drinking VODKA!!!”
And Britney also issued an apology. “I do so apologize to anyone I offended,” she wrote, “but the flight attendants always make sure I’m way at the back of plane anyways.”
The Grammy winner has kept out of the spotlight for years, even before her conservatorship was removed after 13 years in 2021, although she often shares videos of herself dancing on social media.
