Celebrating a decade of incredible music, Northern Star Records will be toasting their existence with a massive live event, 10 Years Of Psychedelica, on Saturday, May 14 at The Windmill in Brixton, London.
Since launching in March 2006, Northern Star Records has become home to the best bands in psych, shoegaze and indie. With the release of their first Psychedelica compilation album in 2006, Northern Star gained cult status, lauded for showcasing the diversity within psych and bringing it to the mainstream.
A champion of the underground, Northern Star became known for featuring the likes of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels and The Telescopes alongside dozens of up-and-coming acts. Working with labels and over 200 bands from across the world, Northern Star continued to strengthen a network of ever-growing, like-minded music fans, connecting fans and becoming a launchpad for new bands.
If the line-up and Northern Star’s philosophy is anything to go by, 10 Years of Psychedelica will not only be a celebration of live music, but community spirit, individuality and, if the Weekender festivals are anything to go by, live antics.
With Northern Star mainstays Youngteam, Culkin and Soundwire headlining the bill, the night will be a familiar affair for Northern Star fans, and a psych-rock awakening to everyone else.
Fellow Northern Star favourites and label-mates 93Millionmilesfromthesun and Kontakte will also play on the night, providing heady psych and sonic bliss in equal measure. Somewhat polar opposites, rowdy and raunchy Satsangi and dreamy newcomers The Cult of Free Love round off the bill, in what will be The Cult of Free Love’s live debut.
After dozens of EP, LP and single releases, not to mention five mammoth Psychedelica releases, Northern Star released their first live album, Live Revolution, in 2014. A compilation of live highlights, Live Revolution was recorded at the 2013 Northern Star Weekender at the Windmill in Brixton, London.
After another Weekender in 2014, 2015 saw Northern Star take a break from the live scene, a spell the label is gearing up to end this May with 10 Years Of Psychedelica.
With advance earlybird tickets going for just £10 via Music Glue, 10 Years Of Psychedelica is an event in the psych rock calendar that should not be missed.
