According to Dailymail UK, 63-year-old musician Morrissey has made headlines once again. The singer, who has a reputation for speaking his mind, found himself caught up in the chaos of Dublin airport’s temporary closure due to severe thunderstorms. Morrissey was on a flight from London Heathrow to Dublin when bad weather conditions forced the plane to divert to Shannon on the west coast of Ireland. The aircraft sat on the tarmac for almost two hours until the weather improved.
However, witnesses on the flight claimed that Morrissey demanded to speak to the captain and asked to be ‘let off’ the Airbus A320 as he didn’t want to be ‘hanging around in [a] coffin’ for hours. Videos passed to MailOnline show Morrissey standing at the front of the plane, wearing a blue suit and talking to a cabin crew member who explains that they have to put the paperwork in the computer, close the door and then they can take off.
In another clip, Morrissey is seen slow-clapping as the captain apologises for the delay. He thanked the singer for the applause, saying, ‘Thank you for your patience and also your applause, we really appreciate it up here at the front. We are doing everything we can to get the aircraft back to Dublin as quickly as we can.’ Morrissey continued clapping and then remarked to the crew, ‘What? What? This means nothing.’
Another video shows the captain briefing the passengers ahead of landing in Dublin on the weather conditions, and Morrissey can be seen clapping the announcement. Witnesses claimed that Morrissey was being disrespectful and obnoxious, slow-clapping the pilot and crew and requesting gin and tonics all the time. One eyewitness said,
‘He looked like he’d been drinking and was being really spiteful to all of them. The pilot announced we had to go to Shannon because of thunderstorms in Dublin, and we must have been on the ground for two hours before we took off again.
Morrissey was being really obnoxious and spiteful, he said he wanted to get off in Shannon because he didn’t want to be in a flying coffin, but the crew wouldn’t let him. Every time the captain made an announcement, Morrissey would just start jeering and slow hand clapping him. I thought it was really boorish and rude of him.’
The flight, BA0824, took off from Heathrow and landed at Shannon at 8:07 pm after being diverted due to bad weather. At 9:37 pm, it took off before landing in Dublin, 35 minutes later at 10:15 pm, two hours and twenty minutes behind schedule. Morrissey left the flight without any further incident or police and security being called.
Morrissey is no stranger to controversy, and this incident has added to his already controversial reputation. He is unlikely to change his ways anytime soon by the looks of it.
