Former One Direction member Harry Styles is starring in ‘My Policeman’ which hit the theatres and also streaming on Amazon Prime Friday. It has an ensemble cast consisting of Harry Styles, David Dawson, and Emma Corrin, among others. The film, inspired by Bethan Roberts’ novel of the same name, tells the story of forbidden love amid the bustling 1950s Brighton. The synopsis for the film reads:
“Tom, a policeman in 1950s Britain, falls in love with a schoolteacher on the Brighton coast. However, he soon begins a passionate same-sex affair with a museum curator, in spite of homosexuality being illegal.”
Harry Styles has gay scenes in the movie
My Policeman” showcases a torrid love affair between closeted gay Brighton police officer Tom (Styles) and museum curator Patrick (David Dawson) – with many shots of their trysts (and yes, Styles’ butt). The titillating foreplay, the same close-up camera intricacies, the same captured intimate moments are more powerful in “My Policeman,” which takes place across two timelines, in 1957 and 1999. In the 1957 timeline, men like Tom and Patrick could be – and are – arrested for engaging in gay sexual activities. In some places, people can still be arrested (or worse) when caught doing the same thing today.
Anti-LGBTQ sentiment and legislation remain a pervasive threat but the issue has been beautifully captured in the movie.
