Blur frontman Damon Albarn’s favourite collaborators were De La Soul. Damon has always spoken fondly on De La Soul and even had Soul in many of the Gorillaz efforts throughout the band’s ongoing career. Currently, like millions of others, Damon is incredibly saddened by the passing of David Jolicoeur also known as Trugoy, Stereogum reports.
Many fans may remember the appearance of De La Soul on ‘Feel Good Inc.’ Damon would then bring back the trio to rap on a plethora of Gorillaz tracks.
Trugoy’s death came at a very revolutionizing time for the band as they were just about to go on streaming platforms to influence a whole new generation, but sadly, Trugoy did not make it to that point.
Recently, Damon Albarn has shared a short piano loop on his Instagram. His post said: “A loop for Dave. I love you”. Albarn, looks defeated in the video.
The show is still going on when it comes to Damon Albarn and the Gorillaz as they have shared touching tributes to the star. Damon and the band are still moving forward musically, as surely, Trugoy would want them to do. There’s a ton of history with De La Soul, and it’s very sad that David can’t see how his work will help out this newer generation of artists.
It will be very keen to see how Damon and the Gorillaz move forward from here from a musical aspect. Surely, we will get a tribute song from the group and that will truly be a song to hear.
