Vice President JD Vance recently stated that he’s concerned the NFL will favor the Kansas City Chiefs now that Travis Kelce is engaged to Taylor Swift, and is even “worried they’re going to have a Super Bowl wedding” via NY Post.
“I will say as a football fan − as a Cincinnati Bengals fan − I hope that the NFL does not put a thumb on the scale for the Kansas City Chiefs just because Travis Kelce is now getting married to maybe the most famous woman in the world,” Vance told USA Today.
The Ohio-born vice president was worried that the NFL would be biased toward the Chiefs, so the newly-engaged couple could have a storybook love story on and off the field. Kelce is the Chiefs’ tight end.
“You guys can’t sort of have this, I’m worried they’re going to have a Super Bowl wedding thing this season,” Vance added. “Can’t do it. The Kansas City Chiefs have to follow the same rules as everybody else.”
Vance still congratulated the couple, while insisting that politicians should “focus on politics,” and celebrities should “focus on whatever it is that made them famous.”
“When I see two people who are in love getting married, I just wish them the best, and I congratulate them,” Vance said. “And I hope they have a very long, healthy and happy life together.”
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell attempted to dismiss “ridiculous” theories that NFL officials would give favorable calls to the Chiefs earlier this year.
“That’s a ridiculous theory,” the NFL commissioner said Monday at his annual pre-Super Bowl 2025 news conference, “for anyone who might take it seriously.”
The Chiefs were defeated in all three of their pre-season games in the 2025-2026 season.
Swift was first spotted at a Chiefs game in September 2023 – sparking rumors she was dating the tight end. She continued to attend his games and sometimes brought her celebrity posse with her. Over the course of their relationship, the Kansas City Chiefs went to the Super Bowl twice.
