Victoria Beckham is speaking out in defense of her children and other celebrity kids against the “nepo baby” label.
In a new interview with The Sun published on October 10, the 51-year-old fashion designer and former Spice Girl talked about her 20-year-old son Cruz, who is following in her footsteps by pursuing a music career. Victoria, who shares four children with her husband David Beckham, said she’s very proud of him.
When the interviewer suggested that Cruz might not be a typical “nepo baby,” Victoria disagreed. She explained that it’s unfair to blame kids for the opportunities they’re born into. She said she feels sorry for children who are labeled that way, adding that they’re simply the kids of their parents and deserve a chance to prove themselves.
Victoria went on to say that what matters most is being a good and kind person. Ambition is fine, she said, but kindness is more important, and people should let the music speak for itself before judging.
“I mean, I feel sorry for these kids that are considered nepo babies,” she said. “The kids are simply the kids of their parents. It’s not their fault. Give them a chance.
What matters is that people are good and kind,” Victoria continued. “It’s fine to be ambitious, but it is more important to be kind. Let the music speak for itself before you judge.”
Victoria and David are also parents to daughter Harper, 14, and sons Brooklyn, 26, and Romeo, 23.
Recently, the Beckham family celebrated Romeo’s 23rd birthday. Victoria shared clips of the celebration on Instagram, showing the family singing “Happy Birthday” as Cruz brought out the cake. She captioned the post with, “Happy Birthday Romeo!!! We love you so much!!!”
David also posted birthday photos of Romeo, including a picture of him smiling after blowing out his candles and an old photo of the two sitting courtside at a Los Angeles Lakers game, writing “My Boy” with a heart emoji.
