Zak Starkey — yes, the son of Ringo Starr — just called out The Who for straight-up lying about his exit from the band. But now? He’s out. Fired. And according to him, the band tried to make him lie about it.
So the drama started simmering a few weeks ago when rumors started flying that Zak Starkey was out of The Who. Naturally, fans freaked out — because Starkey’s been the backbone of the band’s live shows since the ’90s.
But then Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend stepped in and publicly denied it.
Zak finally broke his silence on Instagram, and he did not hold back. He wrote:
“I was fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit The Who to pursue my other musical endeavors. This would be a lie.”
Starkey elaborated on his loyalty to the band and his decision to speak up: “I love the Who and would never had quit. So I didn’t make the statement ….quitting the Who would also have let down the countless amazing people, who stood up for me (thank you all a million times over and more) thru the weeks of mayhem of me going ‘in an out an in an out an in an out like a bleedin’ squeezebox.”
During an interview, The Who members spoke about the longevity of their career.
