Taylor Swift has finally talked about her new song about Travis Kelce’s manhood, saying it began “from a very innocent place.” The 35-year-old singer admitted she got a bit carried away with the lyrics for Wood, one of the boldest tracks from her new album The Life of a Showgirl.
During her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Swift said she originally wanted to write an old-fashioned, timeless song about luck and superstition , like “knocking on wood.” But as she worked on it in the studio, things got steamier than planned. Laughing, she said, “It started out innocent… I don’t know what happened. We just vibed, and I love the song so much.”
The lyrics of Wood describe how Kelce, her fiancé, ended her bad luck in love. She uses playful metaphors like “magic wand” and “Redwood tree,” and lines such as “His love was the key / That opened my thighs.”
Swift also talked about how her mom, Andrea, reacted to the song on SiriusXM’s Morning Mash Up. She said, “She thinks the song is about superstitions — which it is! That’s the joy of a double meaning.” Swift joked that the sexual references went “right over” her mom’s head, adding, “You see in that song what you want to see.”
On Fallon’s show, Swift also showed off her engagement ring, said to be worth up to $1 million, and shared that Kelce proposed in his backyard.
