Taylor Swift is celebrating her engagement to Travis Kelce and sharing the story of his memorable proposal.
Appearing on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, Oct. 3, to promote her new album The Life of a Showgirl, Swift, 35, recalled how Kelce, also 35, surprised her over the summer.
“He really crushed it when it came to surprising me,” Swift said. She explained that the Kansas City Chiefs star had spent hours recording an episode of his New Heights podcast with her, while secretly transforming his backyard into the proposal setting. Among the details was a new wall of hedges, which cleverly hid Swift’s tour photographer ready to capture the moment. “He went all out — 10 out of 10,” she added, flashing her sparkling engagement ring on her first TV appearance since the proposal.
When asked about wedding plans, Swift kept things vague. “You’ll know,” she teased, saying her priority is finishing her album promotion before turning to wedding preparations. “I think it will be fun to plan.”
Discussing The Life of a Showgirl, her 12th studio album released at midnight on Oct. 3, Swift explained that she began writing it during her Eras Tour as a secret side project to keep her energy up. “I was physically exhausted — sick and worn down — so to spark me up, I had the album as a secret passion project. It stopped me hitting a wall,” she said.
Unlike some of her more introspective albums, Swift described Showgirl as focused on broader storytelling. “I have a different perspective now — I can tell stories with a little more distance,” she explained. “I think my wheelhouse is bigger now. I feel I can do anything while running in heels.”
The record has already won approval from her inner circle. Swift revealed that both her father, Scott, and Kelce are especially fond of the track Opalite. “Growing opals in a lab is an interesting metaphor for making your own happiness,” Swift said. “To rise above struggles and be glad you did things on your terms.”
